The Dairy Industry is Fighting Back Against Milk Alternatives
There is a growing movement led by dairy lobbyists to ban alternative milk companies from using the word ‘milk’ for their products. Right away I’m thinking this violates 1st Ammendment rights to your freedom of speech.

On thing is certain, unless the average person is a total moron, people can tell the difference between almond milk and cow’s milk! Because they’ll know that one contains almonds and the other cow’s milk!
Also, what about products like Milk of Magnesia or Peanut Butter, two products that certainly don’t contain milk or butter in them!
What we have here is a Dairy Industry that is losing popularity for a number of reasons.
- People are wising up to the fact that milk doesn’t really do a body all that good, and the growing popularity of alternative milks has been threatening the dairy industry for several years now, so much so that several dairy farms have been going bankrupt.
- And more and more people are either becoming lactose intolerant, vegetarian or vegan.
We’ll see how this plays out in the courts, but I can’t see how this ban will go through being that it infringes on our 1st amendment rights to freedom of speech.
